What is the Oculus & why mountain bikers want to know!

December 17, 2015

You may have heard about a special project that local mountain bikers were undertaking this past summer.  Their was a level of secrecy involved at the time, but with the premiere of  The DIY Network’s Building Off the Grid: Rocky Mountains, the details are starting to be shared!

So, What is the Oculus?

It was built with mountain bikes! Of the many bikes used to haul materials in, the ones that really shined were the Surly Big Dummy and a custom Twenty2 Fat & Long bike lent out by Jesse Hood.

It is along the trail system at Aaron Humphrey’s private property up Cattle Creek. If you ride up, you can hang out inside when you get there.  If the batteries are low you can try to charge them with the bike-rollers generator!

It is rideable! You can crawl up it slowly, or hit it hard and LAUNCH.

It was built by our local Creative Cycling Collective, The Stomparillaz.

Where is it?  You might be able to figure that out on your own.  We’ll keep that a secret for now, but will update you as winter turns to spring in 2016!

Keep up with the StompOculus SWAT Team by joining their FB Page.  Tune in to the FB page as a  viewing party is likely coming together on Tuesday evening Dec. 22nd at Carbondale Beer Works: gather at 7pm, show starts at 9pm.
