There is a new cycling team in the Roaring Fork Valley and its goal isn’t just to win races. In addition to racing for the podium, the RFMBA Trail Agent Race Team’s mission is to help promote the innovative Trail Agent Program, that trains, empowers, and outfits local mountain bikers with the training and tools needed to perform basic trail maintenance.
The local racing community – which represent some of the most passionate mountain bikers in the Roaring Fork Valley – enjoy the trail system as much, if not more – than anyone. Engaging such a passionate audience will help further RFMBA’s mission of creating and sustaining the best possible mountain bike trail systems in the Roaring Fork Valley.
The Trail Agent race team is sponsored by Ute City Cycles and by a generous donation from a supportive foundation seeking to increase the visibility and public knowledge of RFMBA’s mission based work.
In 2018, the Trail Agent Race Team was busy. Rookie racer 34-year-old Chance Larson of Carbondale has been racking up medals throughout the region as well as winning a number of local Aspen Cycling Club (ACC) races. He currently is battling with local Greg Strokes for the lead in the ACC overall. Veteran Jon Gibans leads the ACC Masters division and completed his 19th Leadville 100. Butch Peterson, who won the overall in the 2017 ACC, is currently in a duel with Glenwood Springs’ Lucca Trapani for third place in this years overall competition.
Keep an eye out for these racers on the trails and be sure to check out the new Trail Agent Program.
