You can check out the latest news here in today’s Aspen Daily News Article. The Aspen Valley Land Trust’s Board of Directors has listened to requests from RFMBA’s contacts and from the City of Aspen and Pitkin County, and decided to postpone the closure and rehabilitation of this long used and well loved trail. You can read all about this summer’s drama and the now delayed imminent closure at our previous posting.
The postponement will give time over the winter months for alternate solutions to be worked out. This is an issue that affects all types of trail users in the area as permanent closure would mean that bikers, runners, dog walkers would all be constricted onto the same steep and rocky route. Solutions may include leaving the trail in place (easier said than done), greatly improving the adjacent but very rocky and steep Hunter Creek Trail, or, if no solution is found, the trail could still be closed and rehabilitated in 2015.
Stay tuned as creative solutions are worked out over the coming winter months.
