Did you catch the news already? A half mile extension of the Hummingbird Trail – a project designed and advocated by RFMBA – is now expected to be built this July, about two years after the debut of the original 1.4 mile of new trail. The extended trail will allow riders to skip a short section of dirt road that’s currently needed when accessing the Four Corners and Van Horn areas above Hunter Creek, and will provide excellent mountain views along the way. This project is yet another dividend from Hunter Creek / Smuggler Mountain Collaborative Plan that was approved several years ago to improve both the recreation trail system and the habitat of the area known as Aspen’s backyard. We’re fortunate that both City of Aspen and Pitkin County Open Space & Trails continue to invest in these projects on lands managed by the White River National Forest.
The new Upper Hummingbird will have similar views, but from an even higher vantage point!
