Rio Grande Trail
Most of this (primarily paved) trail is open throughout the valley. Some portions may include groomed surface.
Rock Bottom Ranch to Catherine Store segment is seasonally closed Dec. 1, 5pm – April 30, 5pm.
Aspen, Highlands, Buttermilk, Snowmass (summer trails on ski areas)
All trails and forest roads within ski area boundaries are likely snow covered until sometime in May.
Government and Anearobic Nightmare: New opening June 28. (Formerly June 21). Tom Blake and Sequel trails will open June 21 as usual.
Smuggler Mountain / Hunter Creek
All area trails are now likely wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered until mid May. Bikes prohibited on WRNF routes Nov. 23 – May 22.
Sky Mountain Park
Seasonal wildlife closure is in effect Dec. 1 through May 15. Trails are likely wet and may be snow covered prior to the winter closure, please time your ride carefully!
Town of Snowmass Village
Highline, Lowline and South/North Rim Trail may be wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered into May.
North Rim Trail (north of Sinclair Rd.) is seasonally closed December 1 through May 15 for wildlife. The eastern portion of the Tom Blake Trail is closed April 25 through June 20 for elk calving season.
Snowmass Bike Park
The gondola and lift accessed downhill trail season is typically mid June to mid September. Find more info at AspenSnowmass.com.
Arbaney-Kittle Trail
Trail is likely wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered into May. Bikes prohibited on WRNF routes Nov. 23 – May 22.
Basalt Mountain
Trails are likely wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered into May. Bikes prohibited on WRNF routes Nov. 23 – May 22.
Hay Park Trail
Trail is likely wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered into May. Bikes prohibited on WRNF routes Nov. 23 – May 22.
Crown BLM / Prince Creek / Glassier OS
Most of the lower elevation Prince Creek Trails are wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered into late April.
Glassier Open Space seasonal closure in effect Dec. 1 through April 30* – new opening date as of 2021.
Seasonal closure for bikes on Crown BLM routes Dec. 1 through April 15. Fat bike riding on lower Prince Creek trails (Porcupine Ditch and below) is currently considered acceptable.
Red Hill BLM (aka Mushroom Rock)
May be wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered in the winter months.
Elk Traverse + north side trails seasonal closure is Dec. 1 through April 15.
Sutey Ranch
Access to north side trails closed to bikes October 1 through May 31. No other routes from this trailhead are open to mountain bikes.
Lorax Trail + Thompson Divide
Lorax may be wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered into May. Thompson Divide routes are likely wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered in May as well. Seasonal closure for bikes on Lorax area BLM routes Dec. 1 through April 15. Bikes prohibited on WRNF routes Nov. 23 – May 22.
South Canyon Upper Coal Camp trail: New opening is May 16. (formerly April 16)
South Canyon Lower Coal Camp trail (Meadow Loop) : New opening is May 1st (formerly April 16)
Sunlight Mountain + Babbish Gulch
Trails are likely wet or snow covered in winter months. Send us your ride report! Bikes prohibited on WRNF routes Nov. 23 – May 22.
Forest Hollow / Scout Trail
Scout Trail and Forest Hollow may be wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered after any recent rain or snow storms. Bikes prohibited on WRNF routes Nov. 23 – May 22.
Wulfsohn Mountain Park
All trails are open but may be wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered after any recent rain or snow storms.
New Castle area
Colorow Trail/Stairway to Heaven may be wet, muddy, icy, or snow covered in after storms. Seasonal closure for bikes on BLM routes north of N.C., Dec. 1 through April 15.
