Last spring, we asked you to voice your opinions about how to improve the Sky Mountain Park experience and … WOW! You really did! The mountain bike riders of the Roaring Fork Valley have made it clear how appreciative and passionate we are about the recreational experience Sky Mountain Park has to offer.
A whopping 91% of the survey respondents were from the mountain bike community.
Pitkin County Open Space and Trails heard your opinions and drafted a plan to address them.
DRAFT PLAN HIGHLIGHTS: (Please support these measures)
- Construct an additional route as close as possible to the existing Airline Trail to separate uphill and downhill mountain bike traffic.
- Formally designate Deadline Trail as a downhill-only mountain bike trail (no hiking).
- Review and address user conflicts through separated-use trails, directional trails, alternating-use days, and other strategies.
- Monitor the potential to provide a singletrack connection between Ditchline Trail and Cozyline Trail.
RFMBA supports the draft plan. And we encourage the Roaring Fork Valley’s mountain bike community to support these measures as well through the next step in this process.
***SPOILER*** The draft comment page is VERY SHORT. It simply asks you if you think the Draft Management Actions address certain attributes of Sky Mountain Park. There are a few selections to make and a comment box below. Use the comment box to note your support of a measure or if you think the new draft does not go far enough.
