Seasonal Access trail to north side of BLM’s Red Hill SRMA from BLM’s Sutey Ranch Trailhead
This trail provides seasonal access for mountain bikes to the Red Hill Special Recreation Management Area from June 1 – Sept 30. No other routes from this trailhead are open to mountain bikes.
NOTE: The closure dates are different for hikers and equestrians. The Sutey Ranch walking and horseback trails, open from April 16 – November 30, are open earlier and later in the season than the bike trails.
This trail was made possible due to a years-long land exchange process that brought the Sutey Ranch into the public (BLM’s) management. Please read and respect all signage when visiting this trail.
Description
This trail rolls over pinyon juniper forested hills, down, up, down, up, and down, and up again to connect to Northside Loop and Big Top Trail #82951, on the north side of the BLM’s Red Hill Special Recreation Management Area. Most of the trail is narrow hand built singletrack on gentle sideslopes. Some rocky areas are present, but are generally not challenging for most riders. Some of the turns are bermed to allow for slightly higher speeds on the descents.
Rides to consider with this trail: 1. a short out and back on just this trail. 2. a longer ‘lollipop’ ride starting and finishing on this trail, while looping Northside Loop and/or Big Top Trail #82951. 3. As part of a longer point to point that connects this trail to the frontside trailhead (and Carbondale beyond) of the Red Hill Special Recreation Management Area (Three Gulch Trail / Blue Ribbon).
