Linking together the Prince Creek, Christmas Tree, North Porcupine, Innie, Undie, Father of Ginormous and Monte Carlo trails, this 12 mile loop provides a good taste of what the Prince Creek network has to offer. Expect 1,600 feet of climbing and about an hour and a half to two hours for the full loop.
This relatively intermediate loop does not provide much of a rocky and technical challenge. But riders in the mood for a rocking gully descent that features more turns than you can shake a frame pump at, this is the ride. No one know how many banked flowy turns are on Father of Ginormous. Rumor has it, a local guy tried to count them all and lost his mind. So count ’em at your own risk.
This ride starts at the Bull Pen parking lot on the Carbondale side of the Prince Creek. Climb 1.5 miles on the Prince Creek climbing trail to the junction with Christmas Tree – a singletrack that climbs to the left that is decorated with random tree ornaments. Climb Christmas Tree about .5 miles to the junction of Porcupine and turn left onto North Porcupine. After one mile, the ride turns right at the Innie intersection just after a short rowdy downhill. Climb Innie 1.5 miles to the start of Undie and bear right. Climb Undie approximately four miles to the Father of Ginormous drop in. Descend this wild roller-coaster until it meets the Monte Carlo descending trail and follow that back to the Bull Pen.
This 100% singletrack ride features the new Undie trail completed in 2020. Starting at a junction located 1.5 miles up the Innie trail, Undie climbs and traverses eastward. After passing the Father of Ginormous drop in, the Undie singletrack climb ends at the summit of Crown Mountain. But for those who are focused on just riding this loop, instead of venturing to the top of the Crown, riders should drop into the Father of Ginormous downhill trail for a fun-filled romp all the way back to the Bull Pen parking lot.
Riders who want a little more than this loop can easily explore beyond the Prince Creek Sampler ride to other classic trails such as Skull Bucket or Outie on the Prince Creek side or Buckhorn and Vasten on the Northern Crown trails. When conditions permit and upper trails are dry, a side trip up to the top of the Crown on the upper section of Undie is highly recommended.
