Cam Zirk grew up in Boulder, Colorado, where he developed a lifelong passion for cycling at a young age. He raced competitively for the Boulder High School mountain bike team throughout all four years of high school. Cam went on to attend the University of Utah, earning a degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism with an emphasis in Outdoor Education.
In 2024, he relocated to the Roaring Fork Valley to join the Snowmass Ski Patrol. Outside of work, Cam enjoys rock climbing, fly fishing, attending live music, and backpacking. He is passionate about trail building and maintenance and is excited to contribute to the continued development of high-quality mountain bike trails in the Roaring Fork Valley.
Cam says the best thing about being on the RFMBA Seasonal Trail Crew is the camaraderie. “There’s a lot of humor that we talk about every day,” But as for the trail work itself, he thinks there is a great sense of accomplishment witnessing how the crew’s efforts make a difference “Seeing what a trail looks like in the beginning compared to what it looks like in the end,” is what really drives the crew.
He believes that something most people don’t know about is just how difficult the trail work is. For example, in just one day, the crew cut out over 77 trees blocking the over a two mile stretch of the Cattle Creek Trail on Basalt Mountain.
“We put in a lot of work for the community as a whole,“ Cam emphasized. “The heat’s brutal. It’s hard work. Four days a week, ten hours a day, forty hours a week. We’re tired after every day. That’s for sure.”
Cam’s message to the supporters and members of RFMBA is simple. “Thank you!” Cam said, “and happy trails.”
RFMBA wants to than Cam and all the RFMBA Seasonal Trail Crew for helping clear the path so all of us can enjoy the wonderful trails.
