Originally from Wisconsin, John Steele is an elementary school PE teacher and outdoor enthusiast now living in New Castle. John joined the RFMBA trail crew in 2023 to give back to the trails he enjoys riding.
“It gets me outside playing in the dirt,” says John. “I can give a little bit back to the trails that have given so much to me.”
When he’s not teaching or improving the trails we all enjoy, you’ll find him rafting, hiking, or biking. John says that flow trails like the new Adam’s Way in New Castle, and rugged trails like Government Trail between Snowmass and Aspen are the trails he enjoys most. And what he really likes about the local trail network is the great assortment of trails to choose from. “There’s so much variety,” John says.
This will be his fourth season with RFMBA’s Seasonal Trail Crew, and he’s still enjoying the adventure and challenges that come along with building and maintaining trails in the Roaring Fork Valley and he has a message to the supporters of RFMBA.
“Your contributions give so much to not only the trails today but the trails in the future,” John said.
John has added his trail sculpting prowess to nearly every trail in and around the Roaring Fork Valley so no matter where you ride, you have benefitted from Johns work. Thank you John! RFMBA is proud to have him on the crew.
