If you’ve enjoyed the furthest reaches of the Lorax Trail, the wild and deep woods of Dexter Park, Lake Ridges Lakes, Braderich Creek, and the Coal Basin Trail above Coal Basin Ranch, then you know why the Thompson Divide is so special to anyone who’s had the opportunity to explore this vast area.

“The Thompson Divide Coalition celebrates today’s decision to protect an incredible landscape that is home to valuable wildlife habitat, incredible recreational opportunities, and some of the oldest ranching operations in our region.  Community members from all walks of life – ranchers, hunters, mountain bikers, and conservationists – have set aside partisanship and spoken clearly for many years.  Protecting the Thompson Divide for the next 20 years with this withdrawal will pay true dividends.”
– Mike Pritchard, board member of Thompson Divide Coalition and executive director of the Roaring Fork Mountain Bike Association.

RFMBA has been supportive of TDC’s mission to secure permanent protection for this area for nearly 15 years.  With this major milestone, there’s a real reason to celebrate.  At the same time, permanent protections may still be on the horizon through passage of the CORE Act (Colorado Outdoor Recreation & Economy Act) in future years.  Learn more at the below links about TDC and the recent announcement from the Department of the Interior.
