The Aspen Cycling Club has a great race schedule planned for the 2016 season with 9 road and 9 mountain bike races starting on April 27th and ending with their banquet at the Limelight Hotel on September 14th. The race schedule features “classic” ACC races, new variations of some of the classics, as well as a revival of the Hospital/ Ashcroft/South Hayden race. Races are on Wednesday evenings, registration opens at 5pm, race starts at 6pm.
If you’re not a racer but want to meet other riders, consider volunteering as a marshal at one of the ACC’s Wednesday evening races. The ACC has also scheduled a volunteer trail work evening, set for July 13th. Huge thanks to the ACC and it’s members for supporting RFMBA with matching challenge grant in 2015!
For 2016 the Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers (RFOV) (& RFMBA 🙂 is asking you and others of the Aspen Cycling Club to continue the commitment to their Adopt-a-Trail Program for the Government Trail. As you’re probably aware, the middle section of the Government has been horribly neglected over the years. We will attempt to get some of the willing volunteers to ride into this more remote area to help reestablish proper drainage, maintain tread quality and trim back overgrowth. ACC’s trail day this year will be on Wednesday, July 13 from 4-8pm. Until further notice plan on meeting at the Buttermilk parking lot to either be shuttled up to West Buttermilk or come with your mountain bike and backpack to ride up past the rock garden. Bring sturdy shoes, raingear, gloves, energy food, mosquito repellant, water and gators if you have them. As always copious amounts of pizza and beer will be served afterwards to reward your hard efforts.
Remember, all of your volunteer trail efforts earn you another chance to win a brand new Yeti ASR Enduro mountain bike! This prize is valued at $3,700 and brought to you thanks to our friends at Ute City Cycles!
