The Aspen Cycling Club has a great race schedule planned for the 2016 season with 9 road and 9 mountain bike races starting on April 27th and ending with their banquet at the Limelight Hotel on September 14th. The race schedule features “classic” ACC races, new variations of some of the classics, as well as a revival of the Hospital/ Ashcroft/South Hayden race. Races are on Wednesday evenings, registration opens at 5pm, race starts at 6pm.
If you’re not a racer but want to meet other riders, consider volunteering as a marshal at one of the ACC’s Wednesday evening races. The ACC has also scheduled a volunteer trail work evening, set for July 13th. Huge thanks to the ACC and it’s members for supporting RFMBA with matching challenge grant in 2015!
The Rim Trail cross country mountain bike race provides some of the most fun-filled single-track racing of the season. From the start, racers will head up Fanny Hill on the service road and make a RIGHT turn onto the gravel path of the Sleigh Ride Trail and ride it to Divide Road. After taking a RIGHT onto Divide Rd, a fast road decent will take racers to a hard LEFT turn onto the start of the Rim Trail. Then it’s single-track party time, heading up the main climb and across the roller-coaster ridge that is Snowmass’ premier single-track! *Again for 2016*, about 3/4th’s of the way down the final descent and just below the wood bridges, the course will turn LEFT onto the NEW FLOW TRAIL. This new trail section comes out onto the water pump station access road above Rodeo Road – turn right and finish 100 yards UPHILL!
