Here is a great way to knock two things off your to-do list. On October 3, you can go mountain biking with a kid AND check out the trails at Coal Basin Ranch. It’s called Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day and it doesn’t cost a thing!
Here’s the scoop. Be sure to sign up in advance. The event starts at 10am at Coal Basin Ranch which is located four miles west of Redstone off Hwy 133. .
NEW THIS YEAR: Roaring Fork Cycling will offer free coach-led rides!
At 10:30 RFC will be hosting two free organized rides on the Coal Basin Ranch that you and a kid can participate in. Participants can choose to ride in the Upper Trail Group Ride or the Lower Trail Group Ride. Parents are encouraged to join the fun of the group rides too. Expect to learn skills and drills on the pump track before heading out on the adventure.
IMPORTANT: To participate in the RFC Free Ride, riders must fill out an additional release form!

IMBA’s Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (TKMBD) is celebrated annually in October. In 2026, TKMBD is on Saturday, October 3.
Created in 2004 and recognized by the U.S. Congress, TKMBD introduces the joy of mountain biking to the next generation. Hundreds of thousands of youth have discovered and celebrated the joy of pedaling two wheels on dirt at TKMBD events. Many have gone on to become passionate riders, volunteer trail advocates, and even high school mountain bike racers.
