Join New Castle Trails on Saturday May 3rd from 9am to 2pm to help with some early season trail maintenance! Bring your bike for a fun group ride of the Burning Mountain loop afterward. (Ride not sanctioned by RFMBA or NCT – to be organized by whoever brings their bike and has enough energy to ride after the work is done!)
We’ll be working on the bottom 3 miles of Talbott’s Burning Mountain Trail by foot. We’ll be carrying hand tools (mostly McLeods) and seed mix in small bags to sections of the trail that need the most attention. Our top priority is seeding, as new trails like this need seed spread on certain areas to prevent future erosion. Second priority is raking off large loose rocks, especially on turns, and improving drainage features where necessary. RFMBA/New Castle Trails will provide the tools and the seed mix. As a volunteer, you should bring good hiking shoes, work gloves (bike gloves work!), sunglasses, hat, a backpack with plenty of water, personal snacks or lunch, and a rain jacket and extra layers.
Drinks and pizza will be provided at the end of the work day! If you’re driving to the event, park at Elk Creek Elementary School, in the dirt lot near the Burning Mountain trailhead. Exact location linked here.
