New Castle Genesis Adventure Race

Adventure racing is the culmination of several outdoor endurance activities, paired with the added challenge of orienteering using a compass and map. Individuals or teams of two or more are given checkpoints to navigate between on an unmarked wilderness course via foot, mountain bike, raft, and/or rope. Rocky Mountain Adventure Series was founded in 2018 when a group of race directors from all over the Rocky Mountain region came together and decided to put all their individual races on one platform. RMAS is a collection of adventure races ranging from beginner 6-hour courses up to advanced 24 and 48-hour courses. With races all over the Rocky Mountain West, from Birch Creek Valley, Idaho to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, we are thrilled that RMAS has decided to bring their Genesis 6 and 12-hour races to New Castle! The 12-hour Genesis race is also a part of the Adventure Racing World Series, the premier global circuit for the sport in which 69 adventure races are featured!

Register for the event here!

Exact race courses are not yet available but the structure of the courses are as follows. The 6-hour course is geared towards beginners and/or experienced racers on teams who want introduce family and friends to this exciting sport. It will consist of 10-15 miles of mountain biking, 3-6 miles of hiking/trekking, approximately 1 mile of paddling, and some sort of rope section (climbing, rappelling, etc.). The 12-hour course will consist of all the same disciplines but will be much more challenging, covering more than 50 miles and and requiring much more navigation.

RFMBA is particularly excited to be promoting this event to highlight the diversity of mountain bike trails that New Castle has to offer! We are also excited to share that a portion of all registrations will be donated to RFMBA!

Race organizers will be hosting an orienteering course on Saturday, May 31st. This is often the most daunting aspect of adventure racing for beginners, so this course will help ease those compass and map fears! The course will be lead by an experienced member of the RMAS team. Time of course TBD. All races are on Sunday, June 1st. Start times TBD.
