Sky Mountain Park has yet another new trail to celebrate, and this follows the recent openings of Deadline, Airline, and Cozyline trails. The Ditchline connects the bottom of Viewline trail to the Brush Creek bike path. Nearly a mile in length, the trail is the first phase of a route envisioned within the SMP management plan. We’re thankful that Pitkin County Open Space & Trails was able to take advantage of a significant private donation to make this first phase possible! A future phase of the trail is proposed to continue along the historic ditch to the north before climbing up to the Skyline Ridge trail. Learn more about vegetation
Most of Sky Mountain Park will be closed for the season from December 1st through May 15th. A first of it’s kind hunting season on the park’s land will also temporarily close the trails Nov. 12-16. Learn more about this hunting season and about habitat improvement projects on SMP here. The Brush Creek bike path will also be closed for the winter, Dec. 1st through March 31st. While the trails are currently in great condition, even with recent snowfall, muddy conditions effectively closed the trails well before the Dec. 1st closure last season. If you think it’s too wet out there on any given ride, please turn around so the trails will be in great shape next spring.
